" I am so excited to have the opportunity to run PenPalsForLife in New Jersey to help provide support and comfort to senior citizens. Even though COVID restrictions have been lifted in most nursing homes throughout the state, social isolation and loneliness are increasing, causing significant problems for the elderly in these communities. Feeling lonely is a health risk that increases the incidence of depression, anxiety, cognitive decline, progression of Alzheimer's disease, and mortality. Loneliness has a negative impact on quality of life and mental and physical health. When I visit my grandmother, I see firsthand how isolated seniors are. I feel responsible for caring for our elderly and helping people like my Bubbie create connections, new friendships, and relationships with the outside world. A single letter from a Pen Pal can brighten someone's day and remind them that they are not alone. I will continue to support our mission to help provide human interaction that many nursing home residents are still missing after this time of crisis. The beauty of this program is that it benefits the lives of our senior citizens and has a mutual benefit for the people who actively try to communicate with their Pen Pal. I will strive to do all I can to support this wonderful cause and work to build a network that can help create social connections. Hope you can join our effort! "
